Cladco Fibre Cement Backer Board is a versatile, exterior grade construction material offering many benefits over ply or plasterboard. Boards are A1 fire rated with resistance to mould and water, making these ideal for underfloor heating systems, walls, ceilings and more. 1.2m lengths are available and in 6mm, 9mm, 12mm and 18mm thicknesses.

About Our Fibre Cement Backer Boards
Cladco Multipurpose Backer Boards are made from a versatile fibre cement material (cement mixed with cellulose fibres) to provide a superior alternative to ply or plasterboard options. These exterior grade Fibre Cement Boards can be used around fireplaces (A1 fire rated), as well as water-prone areas, ceilings floors or walls.
These are the preferred backer options for many applications, providing a stable and level surface to work from. We recommend contacting a professional before performing any construction work.
These 1.2m Backer Boards are perfect for covering porous, uneven areas to create a level surface for tiling.

What are the uses of Fibre Cement backer boards?
Fibre Cement backer boards are a multi-usage product that can be installed onto walls, under tiling, directly onto cement floors or as a replacement for floorboards, as ceiling boards, a fire surround for fireplaces.
How do you cut Fibre Cement backer boards?
When working with Fibre Cement Boards, it is important to wear Safety Gloves when cutting, moving, and handling the boards. *Please note that due to the fibre cement material, it is advised that when cutting Boards, a dust mask is worn. Remove any residue or dust with a dampened cloth to avoid particles from entering the air. 6mm and 9mm Boards: These thinner Boards can be cut to size using a scoring knife or blade and a straight edge. 12mm and 18mm Boards: We recommend cutting the thicker Fibre Cement backer boards on a bench using a circular saw that has been fixed with a vacuum extractor and filter. This will make for a clean, straight line whilst reducing the amount of dust in the surrounding air.
Are Fibre Cement backer boards Fireproof?
Fibre Cement backer boards are manufactured from a combination of cellulose fibres and cement mix, making them a non-combustible A1 fire-resistant material and ideal for use around fireplaces.
Are Fibre Cement backer boards water resistant?
Fibre Cement backer boards have excellent water-resistant properties, meaning that these Boards last much longer than ply or plaster alternatives. Fibre Cement Boards give a suitable, even surface for tiling onto and can be used for covering up damp-prone areas or uneven walls/floors.
Where can Fibre Cement backer boards be installed?
Fibre Cement backer boards are multi-use and can be installed in a variety of different ways, depending on the thickness. Please note, Boards of all sizes and thicknesses require a brick pattern/staggered installation if used for flooring installations so that the four corners don’t all adjoin at a single point.
6mm Boards: commonly used on concrete flooring installations, as the thinner Board will not raise floor levels and provide a squeak-free finish. Fix 6mm Fibre Cement Boards to the floor using a flexible adhesive or polymer-enriched, thin-set mortar and place them directly onto the concrete base below. Leave to set for at least 24 hours, before screwing into place. Apply a coating of thin-set mortar over mesh tape with a smooth putty knife to seal joints between Boards.
9mm & 12mm Boards: recommended for installations on walls, with the thickness depending on the end use. For stud walls, or walls with a high traffic area like a corridor, 12mm Fibre Cement Boards are recommended due to their higher strength and additional soundproofing properties. Using screws and washers at least 20mm from the edge of the Board you can fix 12mm Boards to stud walls. For solid walls, we recommend using 9mm Fibre Cement backer boards. They can be fixed in place using a flexible rapid-set adhesive. Once set, screws and washers can be used to secure the Boards to solid walls mechanically.
18mm Fibre Cement Boards are generally recommended for use on new build floors and underfloor heating systems, as the thicker Boards have improved sound and heat insulation, as well as improved strength. Fibre Cement Boards can be installed directly onto joists as floorboards and when compared with hardwood floorboards or other timber-based materials, 18mm Fibre Cement Boards are more robust with minimum risk of moving.
