FAQs

What does C24 timber mean?

C24 timber refers to a type of timber that is 50% stronger than C16 timber and has significantly fewer knots. This makes it able to bear more weight and more suitable for longer spans or increased loads. It is also green-treated and FSC® certified.

Can you modify the timber joists?

Yes, the timber joists can be sawn, planed or drilled to fit the specifications of your decking project.

What are the cost benefits of using plastic joists?

The lack of maintenance required for recycled plastic joists helps reduce future costs associated with decking projects.

How do I use the Cladco composite joists/battens in cladding projects?

They should be used as joists for composite decking to provide a weather-resistant base. The joists should be spaced no more than 400mm apart and used alongside a hard concrete base to ensure a sturdy structure.

Why is it important to double joist and use two clips at adjoining boards?

When our Signature composite decking boards expand and contract, they must be securely fastened to minimise movement. A single joist may not provide sufficient surface area for the ends of two boards to be properly anchored. Using double joists at adjoining points ensures each board end is attached to a joist, increasing the stability of your project. Adjoining boards should never share the same clip, and should be secured using two clips per board end. This method will improve the structural integrity of your decking; especially in high-stress areas like the ends, where foot traffic, weathering and material contraction or expansion increase the strain on your decking.

Adhering to these guidelines will help ensure proper installation and longevity of your composite decking. Failure to follow these guidelines will invalidate the product warranty.

Can Cladco aluminium joists be used with other decking materials?

Yes. While ideal for aluminium decking, these joists are also suitable for supporting timber or composite decking boards, offering versatility across different project types.

Is the concrete foot easy to install?

Yes, the concrete foot is quick to install and can be repositioned with minimal effort.

What are Cladco structural composite joists used for?

They are used to provide a strong foundation for composite decking boards, ensuring everything is positioned correctly for a durable decking project.
